Fall entertaining season is here and this half bath ensures that all guests are welcomed with year-round blooms. The only bathroom on the first level of this home needed to handle a lot of traffic but also look pretty. Finishes by Kohler and Visual Comfort add character and materials like bead board make for easy cleaning. ⁠

Last Fall, I was asked to help with the finishing touches to this 200-year-old farmhouse kitchen, including the backsplash behind the range. Adding something visually striking to a room creates conversations, interest, and, in this case, makes eager cooks like me want to stay and whip something up 👩🏼‍🍳.⁠

A patio project we completed just before summer st

A patio project we completed just before summer started (it's hard to believe it's almost over!). ⁠
⁠
Old furniture from a previous home made this space feel cramped, so the family avoided using it. We created a new floor plan around Polywood rocking chairs and a bench, which are incredibly durable and easy-to-clean. We kept a beautiful cast iron dining table and chairs, re-orientating the set to allow for easier circulation. Now this patio is used daily for everything from morning coffee to entertaining at night.⁠ Cheers!⁠

Concept development starts at the beginning of a project and helps guide every detail and decision that is made. It involves thorough research, whether that entails getting to a showroom to see what is out there, speaking with vendors, or combing through design books for inspiration. It also means listening really really well. I am really excited to see this kitchen project come to life soon!

I'm officially done with the Interior Architecture and Design certificate program and excited to use all the skills I learned to create beautiful, detailed spaces for my clients. Design is alive, well, and thriving in Pittsburgh. The ON DEC event held by @cmao_womenscommittee last week was buzzing with enthusiasm and delight over @peterdunhamdesign , bold colors and patterns, and well-executed interior design. ⁠
As a millennial who has spent most of her adult life in bigger cities like Honolulu, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia and then recently returned to the area, the buzz around good design here has been really encouraging. I've had the privilege of meeting so many talented people who left Western PA to go to school or for a job and then moved back. We've seen and experienced art, culture, food, and living elsewhere, and we want to bring those rich experiences back to where we grew up. I'm looking forward to working and collaborating with so many of you - I think our future here is really bright.

It's almost summer ☀️... ⁠
This is the mood board and design my client decided to go with for a recent outdoor project. A floor plan of the patio guided furniture choices and placement, which will improve circulation and make the space feel less cramped. ⁠
I created four different schemes for the space, based off different colors of Polywood furniture. Everything specified for this project is durable and easy to clean, as this family likes to entertain and has kids and pets. We decided to go with black furniture, which is going to be really cool but also a little sophisticated.

One of the best things about being an interior designer is meeting artists and craftsmen and learning about their work. So much time and care go into making things truly good, beautiful, and excellent. These makers understand that there is no shortcut to goodness. Getting my table ready for the garden club tea this weekend with cheery daffodils in aged terracotta pots, mossy bunnies with blue bows, and my favorite china that I had the privilege of inheriting from some very chic women. Hospitality has always been important to me. Making people feel welcome and noticed, entertaining with a thoughtful menu and a good bottle of wine, and decorating to delight are all things that bring me immense joy. Some of this comes, I think, from growing up feeling like the one on the outside looking in, and some from the fact that we’ve moved a lot and I really appreciate the welcome and kindness we have received from others. There is no question a permanent space is needed o

There is no question a permanent space is needed on the White House grounds for state functions and hospitality. However, the scale of the proposed ballroom, which you can easily look up, dwarfs the White House; a clearly gratuitous, awkward addition, that was not thought through carefully. ⁠
This is not about being a Republican or Democrat. The plans for the current ballroom, which are being pushed through in an unprecedented way, are shocking. Even the project summary by the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) states that the project is "to protect the historic integrity and cultural landscape of the White House and its grounds."⁠
There is nothing about the current proposal that reflects this ideal. An elegant solution that we can all be proud of does exist and there are so many talented architects out there who could undertake this endeavor. ⁠
The White House and its grounds are ours; they belong to all Americans, and I encourage you to speak up about this before it's too late. See link in bio to comment prior to the March 4th NCPC meeting. ⁠
