Details from the beach (St. Simon's Island and Savannah, GA). I love the opportunity to travel, take our kids, see new things. The South has always been so inspiring to me - the landscape, the attention to detail, and the hospitality. It was good to be back.

AutoCAD drawings from my last class at UCLA Extension. I'm officially done with the Interior Architecture and Design certificate program and excited to use all the skills I learned to create beautiful, detailed spaces for my clients. These drawings show some detailed construction documentation of a potter's studio and a one-floor, 2 bedroom home.

Design is alive, well, and thriving in Pittsburgh. The ON DEC event held by @cmao_womenscommittee last week was buzzing with enthusiasm and delight over @peterdunhamdesign , bold colors and patterns, and well-executed interior design. ⁠
As a millennial who has spent most of her adult life in bigger cities like Honolulu, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia and then recently returned to the area, the buzz around good design here has been really encouraging. I've had the privilege of meeting so many talented people who left Western PA to go to school or for a job and then moved back. We've seen and experienced art, culture, food, and living elsewhere, and we want to bring those rich experiences back to where we grew up. I'm looking forward to working and collaborating with so many of you - I think our future here is really bright.

It's almost summer ☀️... ⁠
This is the mood board and design my client decided to go with for a recent outdoor project. A floor plan of the patio guided furniture choices and placement, which will improve circulation and make the space feel less cramped. ⁠
I created four different schemes for the space, based off different colors of Polywood furniture. Everything specified for this project is durable and easy to clean, as this family likes to entertain and has kids and pets. We decided to go with black furniture, which is going to be really cool but also a little sophisticated.

One of the best things about being an interior designer is meeting artists and craftsmen and learning about their work. So much time and care go into making things truly good, beautiful, and excellent. These makers understand that there is no shortcut to goodness. Getting my table ready for the garden club tea this weekend with cheery daffodils in aged terracotta pots, mossy bunnies with blue bows, and my favorite china that I had the privilege of inheriting from some very chic women. Hospitality has always been important to me. Making people feel welcome and noticed, entertaining with a thoughtful menu and a good bottle of wine, and decorating to delight are all things that bring me immense joy. Some of this comes, I think, from growing up feeling like the one on the outside looking in, and some from the fact that we’ve moved a lot and I really appreciate the welcome and kindness we have received from others. There is no question a permanent space is needed o

There is no question a permanent space is needed on the White House grounds for state functions and hospitality. However, the scale of the proposed ballroom, which you can easily look up, dwarfs the White House; a clearly gratuitous, awkward addition, that was not thought through carefully. ⁠
This is not about being a Republican or Democrat. The plans for the current ballroom, which are being pushed through in an unprecedented way, are shocking. Even the project summary by the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) states that the project is "to protect the historic integrity and cultural landscape of the White House and its grounds."⁠
There is nothing about the current proposal that reflects this ideal. An elegant solution that we can all be proud of does exist and there are so many talented architects out there who could undertake this endeavor. ⁠
The White House and its grounds are ours; they belong to all Americans, and I encourage you to speak up about this before it's too late. See link in bio to comment prior to the March 4th NCPC meeting. ⁠

A sketch from a recent studio class. Sketching really helps me work through an idea. In this case, it was window placement and design as well as millwork that would mimic the windows in this two-story space. Good design takes a lot of time and care. Every professor in my higher level studio classes requires hand sketches, which I think is such a good habit, as a designer, to get into. Computers help us present beautiful, realistic designs to our clients and are never going away but a piece of paper and a pencil will always be part of my process for bringing a rich, layered interior to life.

One of the highlights of Paris Deco Off was the opportunity to tour the Pierre Frey archives and their headquarters. Their team could not have been more warm and welcoming and to see their new collections up close was delightful. The archives contain textiles from the Renaissance onwards, serving as inspiration for new lines. Everything they do is informed by a rich heritage and understanding of the past and present. My favorite new collection is Jardin A La Francaise, inspired by the gardens of Versailles.

Some of my favorites from walking around Paris. In January, a lot of Christmas decorations are still up, making it extra special to walk around at night, with twinkling lights still stuffed in live greenery everywhere. Dozens of chic cocker spaniels, gorgeous planters, and classical architecture everywhere you look are part of what makes this city so special.
